Milestones

Chori began business in Kyoto in 1861 as a raw silk wholesaler, just as Japan embarked on a course of modernization in the Meiji Era.
Throughout our more than 150-year history, we have strengthened our business operations to keep pace with changing times and meet the needs of people all over the world.

1861 Chori founded as a raw silk wholesaler in Nishijin, Kyoto, Japan.
1926 Began handling rayon yarn as the rayon industry expanded.
1937 Handling 30% of the total annual rayon yarn production in the Japanese market, Chori became the largest rayon yarn trader in Japan.
1948 Chori Co., Ltd. established with capital of ¥5 million.
1952 The head office moved to Higashi-ku (presently Chuo-ku), Osaka, Japan.
1953 Founded a company to manufacture and sell Woolly Nylon in cooperation with Toyo Rayon Co., Ltd. (presently Toray Industries, Inc.), paving the way to leadership in the synthetic fiber industry.
1956 Began handling synthetic resins, chemicals, machines and other merchandise.
1957 Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori New York Co., Ltd. (presently Chori America, Inc.) as a base for import and export operations.
Established a Hong Kong representative office (presently overseas subsidiary: Chori Hong Kong Co., Ltd.)
1959 Stock listed on the Osaka Securities Exchange.
1961 Stock listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Designated as a friendly trading company by the government of the People’s Republic of China, Chori thereafter became a pioneer in Japan-China trade.
1962 Achieved ¥100 billion in non-consolidated trading transactions.
1963 Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori GmbH. (presently Chori Europe GmbH) in Dusseldorf.
1969 Established a representative office in Moscow, Russia.
1973 Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori Singapore Pte. Ltd.
1974 Established an overseas subsidiary, Thai Chori Co., Ltd., in Bangkok.
1978 Established a representative office in Santiago, Chile.
1979 Established a representative office in Beijing, China.
1987 The Tokyo Branch renamed the Tokyo Head Office, initiating the two head office system.
1989 Established the Central Asia Representative Office in Tashkent, the first branch office of a company from a capitalist country in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Established Taipei Branch.
Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori Trading (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., in Kuala Lumpur.
Established a representative office in Qingdao, China.
1993 Established Chori Shanghai, Ltd. -- the first Chinese subsidiary in the industry founded by a Japanese company.
1994 Established a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
1995 Established an overseas subsidiary, P.T. Chori Indonesia, in Jakarta, from the Chori Indonesia office that had opened in Jakarta in 1960’s.
1997 Received a construction order to increase the transportation capacity of the Silk Road Railway in Kazakhstan.
2001 Launched the executive officer system.
Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori Middle East FZE, in Jeddah, Dubai, by reorganizing as a corporation the representative offices operating in the Middle East since 1966.
2002 Spun off the Plastic Business Division into a separate company.
2004 Chori became a consolidated subsidiary of Toray Industries, Inc.
Established Chori MODA Co., Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan, to conduct surveys, research and planning in the textile business.
Established Chinese subsidiaries Chori (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., Chori (Dalian) Trading Co., Ltd. and Chori (Guanzhou) Trading Co., Ltd.
2005 Established a Chinese subsidiary Chori (China) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai.
Established a joint-venture logistics company, Dalian Tri-Enterprise Logistics Co., Ltd., in Dalian, China.
2008 60th anniversary of incorporation.
Launched a new Corporate Identity (CI) program.
2009 Resumed dividend payments.
2010 Established a representative office in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
2011 150th anniversary of Chori’s founding Established a representative office in Manila, Philippines.
2012 Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori Korea Co., Ltd., in Seoul.
2013 Capital participation in MEGACHEM LIMITED, a chemistry article trading company in Singapore.
PTI JAPAN became a wholly owned subsidiary.
Established a representative office in Cambodia.
2014 Launched the Yakushin 2016 medium-term management plan.
Made Tokyo Shirayurikai Co., Ltd., involved in manufacturing and sales of ladies’ apparel, into subsidiary.
Moved Tokyo head office in Shinagawa.
Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori India.
2015 Established a representative office in Wulumuqi, China.
Miyako Kagaku Co., Ltd., a chemistry article specialized trading company, became a wholly owned subsidiary.
2016 Established a representative office in Istanbul, Turkey.
Established an overseas subsidiary, Chori Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh City.
2017 Established CHORI MACHINERY CO.,LTD.
Launched the Chori Innovation Plan 2019.
2018 Asada U Corporation, a sales company of interior and packaging
. materials, became a wholly owned subsidiary
Kozakura Shokai Co., Ltd., a sales company of a variety of chemical
products, became a wholly owned subsidiary
